The desire to have w child is natural and many woman consider conceiving a baby as the most important moment of their life. Having a child seems to be one of the easiest things in the world, in practice it is not that simple for many couples.
Normal fertility is usually defined as achieving a pregnancy within 12 months by regular coital exposure without using contraceptives. It is estimated that about 84% of couples will achieve pregnancy in the first year and 92% within 2 years. Most couples assume that is fertile and expect effects right after ending contraception. At least 10% of woman in reproductive age is subfertile, and as many as 25% experienced at least one subfertility episode in their life. Most of couples with fertility problems are not completely infertile, they just have less chances to have a child in natural way.
The best known infertility reasons are inadequate ovulation or ovarian function and semen defects. A lot of couples are consider to be idiopathic, that means we can’t say the exact reason of fertility failure. There are more and more couples with fertility problem, and what is worse the number is rising.
Infertility types Among couples who seek for medical help, almost 40% is consider to be female related and 30% male related. In other cases we can’t clearly decide.
Female factor
Male factor WHO estimate that 60-80 mln couples is subfertile. About 2-10% of them is unable to have a child with natural methods and 10-25% is unable to have the second one. It is reported that only 1 of 6 couples seek for medical help to have a child. The diagnosis of infertility doesn’t have to meen "not being able to have a child". Nowadays using techniques of assisted reproduction 80% of our couples ends with desired pregnancy. |
